Tamara Kreinin M.H.S.A., Executive Director of Women and Population, United Nations Foundation

Tamara Kreinin is the Executive Director of Women and Population at the United Nations Foundation. Her experience in health and human services spans over 25 years. She speaks nationally and internationally on numerous topics related to social justice, including sexual and reproductive health and rights; adolescent pregnancy, STD, HIV/AIDS, and sexual abuse prevention; sexuality education; children in poverty; and advocacy.

Prior to joining the UN Foundation, Kreinin spent two years serving as a consultant for non-profit and philanthropic organizations including a year as Interim Executive Director of The New York Regional Association of Grantmakers, whose members grant four billion dollars year, and significant work re-building New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Ms. Kreinin has extensive experience in the sexual and reproductive health and rights arena, including past positions of President/CEO of SIECUS, The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, and Director of State and Local Affairs at the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy in Washington DC. While at SEICUS, Ms. Kreinin significantly broadened its scope of programs, increased its budget, and increased its visibility. Under her leadership, it significantly expanded its international reach, developed partnerships with media, and Kreinin built a strong policy office in Washington DC. She has worked on numerous local, state and federal political campaigns and has advised governors, legislators, state and local public health officials and advocates on public health policy.

Ms. Kreinin is currently on the Boards of The Funders Network on Population, Reproductive Health & Rights, The Center for Gender and Health Equality (CHANGE) and Inwood House. She is co-author of Girls’ Night Out, a book about women’s groups across America, published in August 2002 by Crown, Random House. Ms. Kreinin holds a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan.
