Global Partners: How Planned Parenthood supports women's health around the world.  Many women around the world are isolated from essential reproductive health care, and vulnerable to real harm as a result. Veena Siddharth, Vice President of the International Program at Planned Parenthood, will talk about the harsh realities for many women around the world and will discuss how Planned Parenthood Federation of America is tackling those challenges.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)’s International Program serves women in 11 countries around the globe, with stories that underscore their need for improved reproductive rights: a teenager in the Philippines gets pregnant because the mayor of her city banned contraceptives from all public clinics; a woman in Nicaragua is arrested and jailed for trying to have an abortion; a woman in northern Nigeria can’t go to a clinic because she isn’t allowed to leave home without a male chaperone. These stories are all too common in the regions in which we work.

The goal of the International Program is to improve the quality of life for women by improving their access to reproductive health care. There is a direct link between self-reliance and the ability to plan the spacing of one’s children. We are working to bring positive changes to women’s lives delivering essential reproductive health services in innovative ways and by advocating for reproductive rights.

Planned Parenthood stands alongside courageous activists in their home countries who are willing to openly tackle the issue of unsafe abortion and its devastating human costs. We support efforts in developing countries to change the social, legal, and political climate surround access to comprehensive reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion.
